Try a sea hare. Did the trick for me. But didn't last too much longer (a few weeks) after it was all gone. Try and move him to other club members or something. Works REALLY good.

I have a small outbreak of hair algae also. Afraid to use chems because of corals, but one person tells Lawnmower Blennies work other person tells me doesn't work well. Funny thing is both people own different fish stores. What do you guys think?

Best way to deal with HA is to get the root of the problem resolved (nutrients) algae cannot live or thrive without phosphates. Eliminate your source of phosphates and starve the HA. chemical fixes are just bandaids.
Test your water source make sure you read package ingredients in your foods and I have also heard that frozen foods have a ton of phophates in it. Rinse your frozen foods if you use them first before feeding. The safest way to rid your tank of phosphates is using RowPhos. everyone that uses it here raves about it. I just started using it myself today. It binds phosphates and will do the trick. Good for about 4-6 weeks per treatment.

Another good way to export excess nutrients is using macroalgae in your refugium or sump. They love it and as you harvest the macroalgae you take the nutrients with it.

You need to be taking out more phosphate than you're putting in for a while. It really is as simple as that.

I am no expert but here are some normal practices for those with ha problems:
1) get a phosban reactor, or use phosphate remover in a canister filter like a magnum 250 or 350. Easy way to get rid of phosphate.
2) run carbon. Cleans chemicals out of the water.
3) stop using flake food
4) rinse your frozen food after thawing and throw away the rinse water
5) add lots and lots of LR. If you use a sump, create a LR box and double your LR in your tank. Get LR cheap from people in your local reef club.
6) reduce your photo period. Light seems to play a big role in algae problems. I have a 55g tank with no light and there is no algae even though I know nitrates and phosphates are way high. It is my puffer tank (one lone puffer fish with only a shrimp and chocolate chip starfish for company). I have a 120 that has light over only 1/2 the tank. LIghted half has some algae other half has none.
7) lower your water temp 2 to 4 degrees if other stuff in your tank will take it. Use a slow method. algae grows slower I think in cooler water.
