Stop my Monti

How do I stop my Monti from growing? It is encrusted on the top of the rock formation and going to start taking over. I can't break it off the rocks on the top, or scratch it off.....

Suggetions?

Also, the picture is a poor angle for what I'm talking about, but it shows you what monti I have. It's actually a beautiful piece with great color, I just don't want a tank full of monti (insert Full Monti joke here :D)

Thanks.

Start breaking large potato chips off and selling to stores/locals or give it away. you can also take a pick and chip it off the rock that you dont want it on.

Wow that thing is huge. And yep I would just start breaking bits off and giving it away or trading it in at my lfs.

Man that is one good Monti. You should be proud to have such a great piece. It would be my pride and joy.

I have a similar colored monti and once it starts to grow it takes off. It quickly became my fastest growing coral in my tank next to GSP. Took out 4 or 5 frags of mine too within a few weeks. go check out the Algae mower on youtube. this might help you

Mine wont grow at all lol.. Want to trade? What is your water conditions? Lights and what not I could use some of your magic

I have had the same problem with my red Monti. It went from the front of my 75 to the back. Not even enought room to get a cleaning magnet past. I just broke half of it off one day and tossed it. Now I just groom it regularily. Tough getting past the initial tossing away of coral.

Wow! I wish I had your problem. Seriously, no advice other than to hack it apart and sell big hunks to your LFS, or ebay it.

Hammer time.

This is the exact reason i'm more into acropora. Monti's get real big, real fast. Im slowly removing all but my encrusting monti's from my tank. If you have a LFS or hopefully two or three nearby take some to them for store credit. You wont get much but its better than throwing it out.

Flat screwdriver works good, will pop the monti off the rock in small pieces but it will work! Also easy to do in tank if the screwdriver is clean. Just remember to siphon up the little pieces before they begin growing where they landed lol.

I think it would look cool to grow other corals on the monti, using it as shelves.. so it's all kind of interlaced..
