Stopping STN

Hi everyone I just wanted to know if there is anyway to stop STN I have a milli that is starting to show symptoms. Thanks.

You can either frag it, or what I have done a few times is use superglue or SG gel and seal off the area. And go into healthy flesh a bit maybe 1/4". This usually works, IME.

I second that...just frag the good portions and hope for the best. Try to avoid prolonged time out of tank and DO NOT DIP. The coral is already irritated and dipping in tmpcc/iodine/revive will only stress the coral more IMO....good luck

I've had success doing both fragging the good areas & covering bad spots with super glue gel. Kinda depends on how big the colony is on which solution I try. Big colony I just cut off the bad. New frags I try to patch spot & keep frag as big as possible but if patching is not working by all means frag that sucker...

thanks guys. I wanted to find another solution other than fragging because it is a small medium sized colony of a tabling red milli and I would have to frag it in about 2 or 3 pieces. I will try the super glue. thanks .

Hi guys I thought I'd ressurect this thread instead of starting a new one. I've tried the fragging method with success on two of the lower branches of my coral showing STN that are being shaded by the upper portion of growth on the colony.

However, I am still having a little problem with another small section of the coral. My question is in regard to the superglue method - when you apply to the dead skeleton with overlap on to a portion of the live tissue do you spread it with anything or leave as a little tube-shaped glob on the coral? I ask because I would be doing this in tank and when I squirt the superglue gel (IC superglue gel) it turns milky and is somewhat resistant to spreading at that point.

Thanks in advance!

FWIW i pulled my rock out of the water and applied the glue. first time trying glue (first time trying to stop STN)

i previously had tried applying glue in tank and that is really hard. taking it out of the water makes it go on in a very smooth thin layer and you can spread w/ the tube and avoid sticky mess and clogging the tube that happens when you submerge.

we'll see how it works

I have a red planet I had to frag. The base spread pretty well on the rock. The base has been stn'n. Should I cut away the dead base or leave it? Or spread the super glue over the dead base into the living tissue?
