store name

The livestock prices are through the roof in pricing. Other than tha the dry goods seem to be comparitive to other places.

Was just going to say the same thing Ben...

I bought my 35g Nano through them so I have the "25% Off" fish club member deal and they still are on the expensive side...although they did have there "anniversary" sale on for the month of August and had 40% off all livestock including their limited selection of coral...I managed to get a nice Green Plate Coral for $22 and a couple of yellow Clown gobies for $4.50 each...so I was happy with that buy...

I still have a 35% off livestock coupon laying about that I will probably use when stocking the 120 I am picking up this weekend...as that brings their prices to reasonable levels...

Also compared to some stores...they keep their tanks quite clean...and I like the idea they do not use nets to get livestock out of the tanks when bagging them

somethingfishy on 480 & state has been adding some saltwater stuff. use to be mostly cichlids but is "expanding" might be worth checking out

I like that "something's fishy" store on State, we got some of our very first LR there and a heck of a lot of good deals on other stuff, at least at the time, the guy had a whole separate store next door with all sorts of used dry goods.....And there's a random coffee bar. Good times!

aquarium adventure on 480 and ridge is a pretty decent place. good to pick up a korila better than shopping online if you are a fish club member. and there fish prices are high, but with 25% off depending on what you want you can get them for reasonable price, and they are generally pretty healthy looking. the corals are being expanded in the near future or so they say. if you wait around you might get what you want for the right price. and if you can wait until august buying their fish at 40% off is a good deal. Salt is through the roof though, i bought (2) 5gal bucket of reefcrystals from drfoster for $5 more than 1 bucket from them. fun place to browse tho, lots of fish.

That Place is a sister company of Petco. The prices are downrite silly for fish and corals. I was in there today and the coral section looked 50% better than in the past but still 100% worse than salty critter or AT in Columbia. I have shopped there off and on for about 5 years (since they opened) and the only time the place impressed me was when I was a newbie and had no sense. I have seen large chromis in there for $30 and Powder Blues for almost $200 at times. The owner will not take fish on trade either, you have to "donate" them to him, I also know some people who supply them with some of their corals and they only get store credit. Their tanks usually look pretty good but I think they don't take good long term care of their livestock. I hope I havn't offended anyone but I have to call a spade a spade...
As far as coral prices today I saw a brain for $75 2 galaxia for around $55 or so ea (nice size), in fact I( think all corals /frags were at least $50. ) The others are right the "fish club" discount brings prices down to higher than normal at most places. The only time to shop there IMO is durring the 40-50% discount sales (2 x's per year I think), but that was the time I saw the powder blue for close to $200. Good luck. You should really try Hector's place in Brunswick. It's called Tropical Aquarium and it's at Rt 303 and 42. He genuinely cares about what he does and he has exellent pricing and corals(about half that of Aquarium expenditure in some cases). He will also order anything you want, price match and holds fish for you until they are eating. Try to get Aquarium Adventure to do that. Forget about it. That being said I check in there a few times a year for sales and out of sheer convenience (5 min from my house). They also have a good selection of frozen food including cyclopeez and DT's, pricing a little high but not too bad. Sorry to go on so long.

I agree with Hectors place...stopped in for the first time about 2 weeks ago...met Hector...saw his awesome Frogspawn in his show tank...and bought a great candycane from him for $35...had at least 20 heads, with at least 2 or 3 in the process of splitting...

Love his little 6g nano with only Majano's in it! told him I just got finished killing off about 100 good size ones off of some LR I got from JodyF when he was tearing down his tank to move to TX...Hector just dropped his jaw...he would have loved to had me bring in the rock so he could get them instead of killing them off! Oh well...should have stopped the week before! He could have had them all!!!! :D

aquarium adventure has nothing to do with petco. they are owned by marineland, or at least used to be. you can find the same fish at a petco for 1/4 the price and if its a good petco, the same quality.

I set up my first tank with aqurium adventure about 3 years ago. I spent about 3-4k on a 55 gallon with crushed coral, a ehiem canister filter and a CF deluxe light fixture.

Needless to say, it was all a total rip off. I haven't bought anything from them in years, but I do go in there at least once a month to just look. It is still a nice set up.

That 40=50% thing is a "good deal", but they also jack up their prices an additional 15-20% when they run that sale. You are still paying higher than average prices compared to aquatic tech and salty, but they do generally have really healthy fish from there.

and a pretty neat selection of inverts. corals have always been lacking.

and even though they are a "chain", they are still privatly owned by those two brothers.

all in all, it's a great place to take your kids, kind of a mini zoo, and an ok place to buy fish and inverts about 4 times a year when something really special catches your eye and your wallet happens to be overflowing.

you want to know what is more amazing about them having a powder blue for 200 bucks?

the fact that they sell out every time!

I dont know what it is, but that place moves more fish than any store around even at their jacked up prices.

Aquarium adventure is basically the commercialized "newbie" store.

they do have alot of overhead to cover though being at ridge park square and all.

Aquarium Adventure is not owned by PetCo or Marineland. Aquarium Adventure Cleveland is locally owned by two brothers from the greater Cleveland area.

Aquarium Adventure is a franchise of the PetLand Co. from Chillicothe, OH.

Your right- it is owned by a gentleman named Tom locally, however they are a franchized business and a chain store, there are many more, and they are owned by Petland, my mistake (not Petco). I looked into buying a Aquarium Adventure franchise several years ago and had to speak to a number of Petland people for consideration for a franchise for Aquarium Adventure. I didn't qualify. I needed to come up with 2 mil and I was 1.85 mil short...oh well. They are very particular on how they price items and the layout of the stores. And very restrictive on qualifying for a store. Interesting stuff, but still an overpriced zoo. They sure do move a lot of fish though. The newbie store nomer above is a good one.

Wow, I hope you got more than just that... You could have bought that for well under $500 if you shopped around.

I've been in Aquarium Adventure once (on their anniversary sale) and I would have to agree that they are a rip-off, even with the sale. Drygoods, forget about it! I'm sure I could find just about anything they sell for less than half of what they normally ask. Poor newbies who choose them to start into the hobby... but, then again, they have to be rich in order to afford buying from them in the first place. So I take it back.

The only LFS places I buy from anymore are (in order of preference) Salty Critter, Aquatic Technology, and Two Turtles. Salty Critter just rocks, and if I lived closer I would only go there. Aquatic Tech is a bit closer, but the main reason I go there is because they may have something Salty doesn't (never buy drygoods from them). I go to Two Turtles because it is in walking distance. They seldom have something I really want or need, however.

I got some fish and live rock, but I just over paid wayyyy to much. the coralife deluxe PC light was like 400.

It has basically just turned into a free trip to the zoo for me. Like I said, I go there all the time, I just never buy anything.

Man i still say you all are giving aquarium adventure a bit too hard of a time. Sure overpriced but still an excellent place to browse around, and for me, paying 5-10$ for cheaper fish, (forget tangs or angels) is worth it. Their fish are generally healthy, and certain dry goods are priced fair (IMO they have koralia's priced very well (maybe that is an accident)).

I do admit, it was a bit hard to take seeing a black perc for 90$ but they are 50+ at drf&s.

I hope they dont read this thread as they use to be a csea sponser at one time. Public trashing makes it hard for your officers to recieve donations and post flyers in their place of business. And Im also sure that given the location and sq ft.
their lease is big money which in turn is past on to the consumer.
They are a spin off of PET LAND which was owned by 2 brothers who owned the store in Strongsville mall, and the store on Warrensville road at one time 11 yrs ago.
