Store old water for tank upgrade

Hi everyone,
My current system is 125 gal reef (175 gal system).
I have my new 340 gal DT (with a 125 gal sump, 465 gal system) almost ready to start-up.
I am preparing for the transfer.
Since it's a large volume increase, I was thinking of storing water from my existing system by doing two or three 50 gal water change within a couple of weeks. This is to avoid stress on the inhabitants.
what do you think? Is there a risk for the old water to corrupt even if I put agitation, and maybe some live rock?
Thanks!

The old water will not resemble the water left in the 125 after a few 50 gallon w/c's. I think with salt being relatively cheap compared to the other costs of this hobby, it would be smart to mix new water and acclimate the livestock.

Or, if you are moving everything from one system to the other in one day, you could drain the water from the old tank into the new system assuming it's not too dirty from the move.

Whatever elements are deficient in the present system will be deficient in the new system. Whatever elements have accumulated beyond desired levels in the present system will be elevated in the new system.

Best to go with new saltwater. This is not the hobby for going cheap, especially on something so basic and relatively inexpensive as saltwater.

Thank you for the answers
But I may have explain wrong, I surely don't try to be cheap (I'm in this hobby since long enough to have learn that LOL). I try to minimize stress on the livestock. I was thinking that new water would be more stressfull than old one. I will tripple the volume so that was my concern.
Thanks! :)

I agree. When I went from 90 to 265 last year, I ended up needing about 200 gallons of 'extra' water and used all freshly made. As long as salinity and temperature is the same I think you will minimize the impact of the change.

i do not think it will make a difference, just match the temp and salinity, your fish will love your and the new water :)

btw i am also from montreal!! its rare to see another Montrealer on reefcentral, here is my build thread

who made your tank for you?

Sorry, I missed your comment!

Aquanov made it, delivered it in the house and leveled it. I saw your build thread, it's incredible! :)
