Storm help

Not sure where to post this but I figure if an emergency comes up this where it should go.

With the storm looming, we ALL need to stick together. Many of us in the central and southern shore area are going to lose many corals and fish.

I don't know what is going to happen as far as power outages, but I have always been lucky in Aberdeen. I have rarely lost power when others have.

So I want everyone who is comfortable to allow other to use their electricity in case you lose power.

If I get power I will accomidate as many as possible in my garage as possible until you get power back.

If internet access is out, either FIOS/Cable/Phone Data we won't have communication and that is going to be a challenge. But try.

I would suggest a max of 20 or so gallon tote with a small powerhead, heater, and maybe an airpump.

I am in Aberdeen. I am one mile off the parkway exit 117a. If I have power after this store, I will post here and ask for a PM. I will then PM you back with my address.

I would suggest anyone try to post if they get power and you can PM a request for someone with power near you.

thanks and good luck

Very nice gesture.

I just picked up a battery air pump at PetSmart for $10. Problem was finding size D batteries for it.

im way up closer to camden, and figure i have a pretty good plan should we lose power for up to a day, makin new salt water now, enough for 5 or 6 20% changes, got amquell and stability also, and a battery pump....if it seems i may be out longer than that, i dont know what im gonna do....thinking a power inverter from a car wit a cord coming in my window , luckily my system is in front of the window directly in front of my driveway....hopefully this goes better than predicted and everyone fairs reasonably well

What I did is as a precaution. I took a ride on mowers battery and a car plug ac extension. I cut open the male side of the ac adapter and took the red and black wires and put them to the according sides of the battery(red is positive, black is negative). I now can plug a converter into It to power the essentials . When the battery runs out of juice I'll just plug a battery charger to the battery for a couple of hours and then to plug the needed equipment back into the converter. I'll only be running a vortech mp10 , aquaclear 70 bi-hourly,as well as my t5's which are 48 watts. I might only have the lights on for a couple hours.

Power is out in Aberdeen. Tomorrow morning I will connect an inverter into the car and run an extension cord from the car to the tank and see what happens.

My mom in Lakewood said she got it back after being out a few hours. Home depot had 300 people in line last night for generators.

Good luck to our livestock.

Powers been out by me in jefferson county for almost 5 hours now. My truck has a built in 150 watt inverter so I ran an extension cord into the house and have my truck idling in the driveway with a full tank of gas.

I'm powering two tanks. A 46g fish only has the canister filter running, and my 75g sps/mixed reef has the return, skimmer, and two powerheads alternating on a wave maker. That puts me at about 125 watts. I don't have enough juice to run heaters :(

I plan to leave everything running overnight, and will turn it on every few hours in the daytime. I really hope I don't lose anything

Best of luck to everyone out there!

I think if you have the oxygen going in the tank and having flow every once in awhile you should be good. The heater trouble sounds bad. Iv always been told never let your water temp drop more then 5 degrees

Just checked the tank and it's at 78.4. I took a big comforter and draped it over the tank so the top and sides are all covered, to trap in heat.

My sump has a powerhead in the return area aimed towards the surface creating agitation. I left my stands doors open to allow air exchange at the sump, since I covered the display. Between the skimmer and sump surface agitation, i think I'll be ok with oxygen. With the power heads running, I will be ok with flow. The blankets will help retain heat, but for how long...I really hope power is restored soon. Tomorrow would be great :)

Manasquan Trashed!!

I have a new generator and unlimited capacity to life boat corals, unfortunately, the area is trashed, 908 670 1099 if I can help.

I am now boiling water and putting it into 2 liter bottles and droppping those into the tank. The house is down to 65, tank is about at 70.

Not sure when we in northern monmouth country are getting power.

Aberdeen didn't do to bad. We didn't have major sustained winds just really nasty wind gusts.

Been with very limited power since Monday. I can run powerheads and a return only. Tank has been 69-70 for a few days. Corals and fish seem ok. It don't know how long they will last. Hoping for power ASAP!

Tank is fried. Everything is done. 4 days no power. I too was running an inverter, but with gasoline so difficult to get, I had to pull the plug. I brought my egg laying pair of clowns to Lakewood, but I guess the water dropping to much, they didn't make it. Cleaning out the tank today. So much lost, so sad.

Anyway, I am now trying to say, which coral might make it. My GSP are closed, don't smell, maybe. So I am prepping a 5 gallon bucket for just in case it comes on as I clean it. Past tomorrow it will all have to be bleached.

Good luck to everyone. Hopefully some of you get to save your livestock and coral.

I WILL BE BACK!!!!!! next time with a generator.

I too had a lot of loss. Just got power back but my tank dropped to 60 degrees for over a day and some things just couldn't take it. There was nothing I could do. My 46g fish only tank lost both it's fish, an awesome 5" banana wrasse and a large harbor goby. My 14g biocube lost its clownfish and it's two spot hog fish. My 75g reef didn't lose any fish, but all the sps look shot, an the other corals look rough but may make it.

This has taken a large toll on me and my fiancé and I think I'm going to sell off my tanks and equipment and just keep my 75g tank. I can't go through this ever again. I wish everyone out there the best of luck in these hard times :(

Dexter, I feel your pain. I am buying a small generator that is 800 watts just for the tank. I am also buying a 7k generator, but the little one will be for the tank. 1.1 gallon of fuel. Just enough for the heater or fan, and circulation. If during the summer, I can do the ice thing with the large generator.
