Strange black spots on clown . . .

As you can see in the picture below, my clown has been developing some black spots over the past six months or so. They are smooth like the rest of the skin, do not apprear to be an infection and do not seem to bother it, but I just thought it stange and thought I would see what others thought. I bought the pair about a year ago as tiny tank raised ORA's and they are just beggining to sex. The one with the few spots is male I believe as he is slightly smaller and the other has been growing faster leading me to belive that she is (or will become) the female.

Hi...pretty sure that happens when they try and host with a coral. Did you just add a new piece to your tank recently ?

No, nothing new to speak of except some SPS frags and they never go near them. The only thing that they try to "host" is a small rock overhang near the corner of the tank. They never stray far from it and nest the sand.

Only one of the clown has the spots.

Someone on my reef club forum noted that is could be a nutritional problem, but I do feed a variety of foods . . . . .

Pretty sure it's from a coral..99.9% sure :) Any zoanthids in there ?

Ive got tons of Zoas, but I havent seen them mess with them. If it was zoas, I wonder if he will learn his lesson and not mess with them again LOL

If you want you can just send all your zoas to me...stating with the ones in your avatar :D

My pair have the exact same black spots. One hosts in a bed of brown harry shrooms and the other hosts in a green open brain. I just wish they would find the BTA one of these days and just host in that.

They seem healthy enough. If thy are being stung, you would think they would learn to not go near that coral.

Any other opinions on this??

my clowns developed the same spots they live in an anemmone soon after they got the spots they laid eggs so it could be breeding condition that causes this i have raised several batches none of the young have spots some are 2 yrs old but the parents still have theres and still lay every 12 days
