Honestly, that' sthe safest place for him. Safest for your reef and its inhabitants that is. With the exception of porcelain crabs, they all end up being omnivores, and unpredictable at that. If I had a fowlr, I'd leave him in the display. Pretty cool little devil.

Funny, I just found the same crab in my tank today, but he is all brown, kind of sand colored. He must have come in on a pipe organ coral I have. I don't know how I'm going to catch him. I'm sure I need to though, because he's in my seahorse tank. I'm going to look up a gorilla crab and see if it looks like him.

That's not a gorilla crab for sure. I would never trust a crab in a seahorse tank.

Check the tip of the claw structure, if they are pointed its a good idea to get him out of there, if they are flat like pads theres a better chance to keep him but still since hes a hitch hiker u never no

thanks everyone. I had to dispose of him because in my HOB he found the intake hose for my Rio 1700 return pump and twice was jammed up in the hose I adapted to the intake.

To catch him I let the tank get hungry for a day or two then set the trap.

trap was a smaller, skinnier water bottle empty. cut the funnel top off leaving an inch or two of bottle (regular circumference) cut again so you aslo have the bottom part of the bottle with about 3-5 inches of regular bottle circumference left. Basically your just cutting the middle section of the bottle out. Put some sand in bottom of the cup part for weight. Bait it with shrimp or conch or some meaty frozen food that crabs will eat. Attach top funnel part inverted upside down (might need to cut very tip (mouth peice) to open the hole more. Place contraption near crabs lair at about a 45 degree angle sticking up out of sand most likely. Crab can crawl in to bait but cant get out.

They are well known to fail and cause catostrophy.

And if you don't believe him just catch the search function at the right time of day and search "rio failures", "dead rios", or "rio catastrophe".

^^Use the "Search tools" option in the Main Menu on the left side of the homepage. It goes through google and is always working.
