Strange Death

anyone out there have any experience with Swallowtail Angel fish? Mine was doing great, eating, active, thick, good color, and king of the tank until Sunday morning. When the lights came on it was at the top of the tank gasping for air and was gone within hours. There were no visible signs of disease and it's color was good right up to the end. The cleaner shrimp didn't seem to notice a problem.

Everything else in the tank is doing great. All fish and corals are very happy and healthy.

Can anyone think of anything I should watch out for before introducing another fish?

(setup is a 105 gal reef established >2 years)

How long did you have this fish? Was it in an environment where copper was used before you obtained it? If so, it's immune system was probably weakened and once removed from the copper it was unable to protect itself. Just a theory.

Hi,

The fish could have died for 5-10 different reasons. If all the other fish are healthy then I would not worry about it. I would not add another fish for a few weeks to see if any of your other fish die.

I had this fish about 6-8 months and I'm not sure about copper at the LFS. Seems like copper would have been a facotr early on, but not sure if it would have an impact after this length of time.
