FWIW, last nite, i was at Walgreens (Geary & 18th Ave) and came upon their $1 basket clearance item.

they had 4---9lbs jugs of Prestone Ice Melting pellets. dudh! i guess that stuff does not sell in SF.

looked into the packaging and it listed Calcium Chloride (CAS #010043-52-4) as it main ingredient. don't know how pure this stuff is......

Actually, if any SF person would be willing to buy it and bring it to the next meeting, I'd pay you back and bring you a frag for the hassle :)

I just went to the walgreens and bought the 4 jugs. I will bring 3 of them to the december meeting. One for Mr. Ugly, One for seminolecpa( In thanks for the Efflo Frag), and the last one to the next person that wants it( Just pass a *** to me down the road). Oh and it is the Prestone Driveway Heat, thanks for the tip swingdaddy. I was just about to buy B-Ionic, this will save me some money.

you got it Nuke,

LOL I missed one letter in "frag" and the censor got it. I didn't mean to swear.

Also if someone is looking for a algea scraper they have them in the 1 dollar cart as ICE scraper for windows.

Thanks Tim. I see you live in Alameda. Maybe we could meet up this weekend. What kind of frags are you looking for?

but what ever you got is fine with me. Sunday would be good for me if you want to meet up. Also, Mr. Ugly I could meet with you sunday.

this might be a stupid question, but what is this stuff used for???

to cool down your tank or something??

thanks.

Calcium suppliment, the fact that it's used as an ice remover has to do with the fact that there's a chemical reaction when the stuff comes in contact with water and creates heat. But all of that goes away for your tank since you do the mixing outside of the tank.

I think the more important question is what in the blue hell is walgreens in San Francisco doing with ice/snow removal products! And to think I was going to load up on them when I go to Tahoe this winter for vacation :)

They probably got it in a shipment by accident, and it's in their dollar bin because most people don't have a use for it around here :)

Just a reminder to people. Prestone Driveway Heat is the anhydrous calcium chloride, like Kent Turbo Calcium.

If you are doing the Randy 2-part recipe, you use 20% less of the chemical when mixing your Ca solution than if you were using Dowflake.

Also, the anhydrous calcium chloride generates a lot more heat when mixed with water compared to Dowflake, so be aware!

And thanks again Tim. I appreciate you picking up a jug for me!

Thanks Tim for bringing it over. It was nice meeting you and your wife. Glad we have another reefer here in Alameda.

Thanks for the info Norman.
