Strange fish death

I am looking for some thoughts on what happened. I got a royal gramma yesturday for my 29 gallon reef. Right now I only have 2 clowns and a mccosker's wrasse in it.
I dripped the basslet for about 2 hours and put it in. It looked great and within a couple hours it was swimming around and none of the fish were bothering it. It even ate at the store and in my tank shortly after I put him in there.
I woke up this morning and the fish was being eaten by the shrimp......
Everything else is fine as far as water param's and all fish are ok.
Any clues as to what happened? Or perhaps this was just something that happened with the fish?

what kind of shrimp was eating it? my coral banded shrimp tried to eat my scooter blenny although he was fine with a firefish and a clown in my 20 gal.

although royal gramma is tougher than a scooter lol...it could have fallen asleep to a vicious CBS?

2 occelaris clowns, 1 large female and a black male.
And the 2 peppermint shrimp were eating it.

hmm peppermint shrimp arent as mean as cbs's and i doubt those clowns would do it...very good question

Ya that's what I figured. And I don't have any coral band...I have a fire and a cleaner. The wrasse was only introduced two weeks ago as well.
I am thinking it was just a freak thing and I should get another one. That happened with another fish I had. He starved himself and died in 4 days but I got another one of the exact same one but the new one is doing awesome.

Some fish are more sensitive to alterations in parameter than others. For example phosphates and nitrates, even s.g. When a "healthy" fish succumbs overnight, then think "shock"(chemical or physical). Even an outbreak of ich or velvet would overcome it and change its condition that fast. Your current tank mates may not have been the cause, but also, don't underestimate how vigorously and aggressively a clown will protect its small territory. My pair of perculas paid no attention to their tank mates, but almost drove a new Blue-headed wrasse to its death, chasing it up into the tanks far corner. They finally settled down after a good 4-5 days. It is a credit to the wrasse that it survived its "welcome".
