we're building a 3 part pond using a big pool sand filter from the pool we filled in. richard just got the plumbing for the lower part going last nite. so we have an 8'x8'x2' square with a flow to and from the pool filter (great flow btw). BUT, we hadn't bothered with the pool for about 2 years, and when we fired it up, the water started to stink. Richard says its a methane smell. i'm figuring all the crap that was in the sand filter for 2 years rotting.
i tested the water with all the test kits i had from both the sw tank and the hot tub, and everything is coming back clean, including zero chlorine.
we did a pretty good backwash on the filter today, and the smell is much better, but if we stir up the little bit of dirt on the bottom i can still smell it.
any suggestions?
