I don't think it's aiptasia... It's tentacles are too pointy.

Not sure what it is but it sure has pointy tips like this critter does off Melev's site. I saw it awhile back on his site when looking at some other pics

Looks like the small shallow water anemones I used to collect from intertidal areas in FL- they look like junior curlique anemones and stay small. I never had a problem with them.

It's a rock anemone, I had one once. They are really hardy, but don't take over the tank. It will grow to a few inches diameter.

There are two or three types of aiptasia. One is a 'curley cue' looking aiptasia. Lots of anemones out there. Doesn't mean it is an aiptasia species.

It looks like an aiptasia I have in my tank -- I have been lazy and haven't nuked it yet, but there are a few that I got in on the last live rock I put in the tank.

I know it's an aiptasia because it grew pretty fast.

I'm going with the rock anemone because it is definitely attached to the rock like any anemone is. There is another one appearing on the top of the same rock. It wont really eat anything that I give it though. What do they eat? (Usually the answer I get to that is anything that floats in front of it.)

I'll post some better pictures of it in a few days when my larger tank is set up. I'm sure I'll have WAY more critters for you guys and gals to ID by then though from all of the new live rock I need to get.

It is not a rock anemone. I have 6 anemones (all are attached to rocks but only one is a true "rock" anemone. Anemones will simply attach themselves to wherever they like the light and waterflow combination. Where did you get your rock from? If it is not an aiptasia it could be a type of curly cue. I ordered my rock from here in Fl and one of my rocks had one of these. It has not multiplied in over a year. Keep an eye on it. If it doesn't multiply it is very unique to have.

Sorry guys. When I setup my new 50 gal, this piece of live rock got placed in the middle, and the critter is facing the back. there's no way to photograph it any more, except from the top down.... and that wouldn't make for a very good picture. I'll keep an eye on it though.
