I have a large yellow tang that is currently in my quarantine tang....been there a few weeks. i have noticed what looks like a strange growth on his left fin. any ideas on what i should do? should i catch him and try to remove it or treat him with something? he is a little camera shy so i havnt been able to get a good picture....this is the best i have.

i know its hard to see, but the discoloration there on the fin is what im talking about, my girlfriend thinks it looks like a "fuzzball or something" but it definitely has three dimensional development.....so any help would be much appreciated.

cant tell from the pic if its the same thing or not....but should i leave him in quarantine while he has that or when his time is up should i move him to the main tank....water quality is better there so that might help....

Does it move around on his fin or have big black eyes?

If so, you might be dealing with a parasite.

Tough to tell from the pic unfortunately, but I agree to keep in quarantine until it clears up.

i was treating for ich a few weeks ago in the tank, but there have been many water changes since i last put the ich medication in. ill have to read up on isopod, thanks for the help so far.

it is about half an inch long....and does kind of look like a parasite...i have copper medication i can put in...would that work or should i use something else

Ok....well i may have just made a mistake...but i got a good look and it was a bug of some type and it was eating his fin.....so i caught the fish and pulled the bug off....he is eating fine right now so im hoping i didnt stress him out to much, but here are some pics of the creature i pulled off.

any idea what it was, and should i expect more of them and if so how do i deal?

yeah but all the reading ive been doing on these isopod things talks about the big black eyes....this has no eyes that i can see. the black spots you see on his head are just pieces of seaweed that was on the paper towel i took pictures of him on and wipe right off....but the eyes are always talked about in the identification.....but other than that everything matches....i never saw this on him until he had been in the qt for a few weeks...maybe it was just small and grew up on him....
