Okay, would you pay $400+ for this colony? It's about 5 inches across.

Sorry for the small pic.

No - it is just a fad - remember way back it was zoa's and just last year it was acan's.
Coral fads come and go all the time.
Can you say "rip off"?

I was staring at my table Loripes for a while and how the blues and white just looks so cool with the polyps coming out of the ends. It looked so much nicer for a portion of the price.

if you look at it from a monetary POV, you could easily frag a quarter of that colony and make your money back for sure. Some corals are a fad true, but some corals are not. Still cant really find OT or PM for less than 80 anywhere (usually).

If you have the money I say go for it. Not really worth that much IMO but a good investment and a beautiful coral.

Its hard to say from that pic, but agree with Bigmike. If you like that much and can frag a few...go for it.

It's a very nice coral. I'm not sure it's "value" can be asked in simple yes/no form. Many people think that price is crazy; others will have no problem. If you like it buy it,

I'm with them.^^^ I came across one this Wed in Greenwich, CT about that size selling for $360. I was tempted but passed.

I just find that these retailers take advantage of us.

I was in Florida a couple of months ago and was blown away by the prices they ask for Florida Rics! I can get them way cheaper in Canada.

It's a great looking piece.. but $400 worth of great? probably not for me.. Like others have said tho, there are plenty of people willing to pay that.

You will probably end up fragging it if you did get it anyways. It will really be hard to keep the whole colony happy with the flow needed to keep it growing. Just my take on it.

Hi,I paid $200 for mine from a LFS I was able to cherry pick it out of there shipments.Mine is about the same size ,great coral imo ,the $200 I paid I thought it was cheap and yea it loves flow lots of it .

If I had the perfect spot for it and it was well encrusted on its rock, I would. My problem is I would pay for it then have to shoehorn it in:fun2:

I wouldnt say thatrs over priced, but.... No I wouldnt pay that for it, and here is why. Shortcakes are not great at being transplanted to other tank, especially if shipping is involved. Also they can and do brown out pretty easy. Now they will re color up eventually but I would be mad as heck if I paid 400 bucks on something that browned out.

I am really thinking of it. This one is in great shape. Polyps are out the first day the shipment came...

I would I bought 2 frags when I went on the fosters and smith tour for 80$. Awesome coral. Your paying 400 for somthing 50x bigger than what I got for 80. just my 02 cents.

I wouldn't pay that much. I've bought some expensive heads in my time that didn't maintain their colors in my tank it just made me sick. I prefer to buy frags. You could buy alot of nice frags for $400
