Stray UV from windows

Hi all...

I'm preparing for the arrival of my 120g tank (yippee!), and have come up against a question that I have not been able to find an answer to as of yet.

Do I need to put a UV-blocking film on the windows in the room with my tank? It will be on a wall with a window on one side and sliding door on the other, but none of them get direct sun. also, one end of the tank will be facing another window (~5' away). I have seen picts of folks who have their tanks in similar situations, but they have been at sea level. Being at over one mile in elevation (high desert), I am concerned that there isn't enough atmosphere to absorb enough UV.

Should I be concerned? Is anyone out there in a similar situation?

Thanks!
Paul

funny, funny-I like using sunlight to help light the tank.

other people have tanks running solely off of sunlight, while others say NO SUNLIGHT ALLOWED

its up to you!!!

LOL let you in on a little secret that the eye glass places don't want you to know, Glass naturaly blocks UV light in the B & C region but does let through some UV-A which is the least harmful.
Short Answer, No need to worry about it.

You should be more concerned about the heat from the direct sunlight. If it's too hot get some mini blinds to cut it down a little.

The sun light will be good for the corals and if you have good water parameters there should not be any algae problems because what produce it are the nutrients in the water.
