Stream for a 65 gallon tank?

I am in the process of setting up a 65 gallon tank (36x18x24, FOWLR [moving the inhabitants of another tank into this setup] and then likely softies, xenia or polyps down the line; no sump, but I have a refugium and Aqua-C Remora Skimmer) and have had poor luck with powerheads on my marine tanks (nothing ever seems to go wrong in my freshwater tanks). I was interested in opinions regarding using a stream. I considered a closed loop or other brands of powerheads, but think a stream may be a more economical / better in the long-run way to go (no plumbing, loss of head pressure, etc.). I was looking at the 6010 kit, the stream 6000 plus 7091 singlecontroller. Would this be overkill? If it was overkill, is there anything wrong with operating this controllable model at less then 100% all the time to compensate? Also, in regards to sugar-fine or oolitic grade sandbeds, should I anticipate problems with a stream? Thanks in advance for the input!

I honestly think a 7200/2 or 7300/2 would be more appropriate but a 6000 could work. It may cause trouble with a DSB. I am not a fan of Oolitic and have no practical experience. The tank is 24" deep- if at least 20" is water column it could work.
