Stream Holder

Roger,

I am currently redesigning and building custom overflows for my 300 gallon reef tank. I have 4 Tunze Stream 6100's with a controller and they have performed flawlessly over the past few years.

I would like to add a compartment to the inner sides of my overflows to house the Streams. The compartments will be designed to allow water to penetrate them via small slits in the top and bottom with the same effective area as the slits on the Stream cowlings. They will also be shaped in a triangle fashion to set the "pointing" angle of the Streams. A 2" hole will be cut into the side of the compartment to allow water water flow from the propellor.

In order to reduce the required size of the compartments, I would like to use the Streams without the cowlings. Has this ever been done? Will the water flow be the same without the cowlings? will I need to "focus" the water stream from the propellor through the hole in the compartment, via a DIY tube or funnel, to produce the same flow pattern?

I wouldn't recommend it as the shape and size of these housings is critical to the right flow characteristics.
