I have some stress coat (from aquarium pharmaceuticals) laying around from the freshwater days. has anyone used this stuff in a saltwater tank. used to use it after water changes and stuff in the FW and just found it going through the fish stuff.?

LOL well now you got me wanting to try it just to see what the skimmer does.....LOL Thanks for the info I won't do it...

A couple years ago I was alone in a customer's home, working on a tank. The skimmer (Turbofloter 1000) was unplugged when I got there. I was ready to leave, so I plugged in the skimmer. It put out wet foam, filling the cup in seconds. I worked on the stupid thing for about 30 minutes before I finally gave up and unplugged it. I called him later about the skimmer and he told me he'd put Stresscoat in the tank the day before.
I could have killed him.
BTW - I read somewhere Stresscoat could harm clownfish.

I don't know if it would harm fish but I do know that you will SO regret it if you try it. It will take a couple of water changes before the effects will go away. Stess coat actually works by irritating the skin of fish so they will excrete extra slime to replace whats lost due to transfer in nets, water changes......I don't know if its the irritant in it or the aloe that causes the foam.

Jim's right about Stresscoat being an irritant. I don't know anyone who uses it, certainly not for marine fish. At the big fish auctions, aquarists use solutions of methyline blue to reduce stress in freshwater.
