Stringy tort

I have had my tort for a month or so an it was doing just fine. Now it has one white polyp on it with what looks like a cotton ball coming out of it. Has anyone seen that before... Ivelooked it up everywhere and cannot figure out what is happening. my alk. Is at 10 dkh, calcium is at 460, and salinity is at 1.025. Everything else's naturally a zero.

I didn't take an pics and yes it can be removed, the wife took a baster to it and got it... Somebody told me that it was it feeding because the was abundance of nutrients in the water, which kinda would make since, I changed my salt to higher quality about three weeks ago and I did a water change that day. Its crazy because I have never seen one like it before, it was like a cotton all hanging off the tort....

This is the best shot I could get, it's a lot smaller in this picture not as many string out just the white nub with little bit of string.

Looks like either the tissue coming off a stung polyp or a comb jelly has made it's home on the tip there.

Our temp ranges between 77.2 - 78.6.

We rarely add marine buffer for our ph.. And haven't dosed calcium in our tank for about a month. But when we did we put 3 drops of Kent's calcium in the back above the filter.

The little strings come and go. Today they aren't back, but the last couple of days they were there....

BioCube,

I have always been told it is mesenterial filaments.

Some people have speculated that it could be a few things.

1. Stress.
2. Attempting to reach another coral or food in the near proximity to eat.
3. Feeding Response.

I get it from a few acros after feeding, it always goes away. The only time that I would worry is if the filament is reaching other corals.

Good Luck,

Thank you for the response, I had no idea that it would be bad for that to be next to another coral, well. Knew all corals are territorial, just didn't realize it's reach. I have much to learn. Just I'm so new I could have been stressing it out with my not knowing what to look for. But at the same time I have been very lucky with my system.
