stringy white feces

Usually internal worms.

You should de worm the fish

You can get OTC treatments such as Droncit or prazipro.

Overall, it will help the fish in a number of ways; by getting rid of the worms

It depends.. The way that the other fish will get worms is injesting some larve from the other fish.

If they are WC fish they are likly to have worms. But just from general contact they will not 'catch' worms.

Food is the best way as you know the fish is getting the right amount and actually injesting the medication.

Can you use prazipro in the water while running copper? How about in the food while there is copper in the tank. The fish did start eating today. I have not gotten any prazipro yet so I don't know exactly how it is given in the food or water or either. He did have some ick spots that's why the copper and I don't want to stop that. Can the internal deworming wait for a couple weeks?

My bottle of prazipro said nothing about mixing with the food. I simply dosed my entire tank twice and my fish was all better after 6 days.

I have read several accounts where a fish with worms didn't last very long. My clown had worms for several days before I treated him. I don't know if he would have lasted several weeks.

I am not sure if PraziPro can be mixed with copper. You need to read the bottle or call the manufacture to be on the safe side. Some sulfates can not be mixed with other sulfates so to be on the safe side I would call.

And jmpatri1 is right, PraziPro is a bath and should be used as a bath; not mixed in with the food. Mix in dewormer for food will say use for food to be effective.

Be sure to seal that PraziPro in a sealed container.

That stuff smells awful.

I put some in a utility drawer in my garage and opened it after a month, and cloud of stink came out. I had to double ziplock it and I can still smell that stuff.

Does this mean it would be good practice to treat all new WC fish with a dewormer while in QT? After 1 wk in QT I did not notice white feces, but once in the tanks, I saw a few with it...

When it is stated they get worms from eating larvae from other fish, I assume w are we talking worm larvae ?

I and 2 others just lost 24 banngai cardinals from the same batch after just over 2 wks after receiving them

always q/t for at least 3 weeks.

i do 4 - 6 building the fish's strength and treating any thing that needs done. i have a quite large q/t tank though.

yes worm larve.

ot certainly would do no harm to use prazipro in q/t

it is something i intend to start.

Sorry for a minor hijack, but...what is tang feces supposed to look like? Mine is multiple strands of stringy type material that holds form when expelled, maybe 1/2-1 inch long. Guess you could call it stringy, never really thought about it until i read this thread. Fish is asymptomatic, eats like horse, otherwise looks very healthy, ~7 months of this in my tank.

White feces is not always due to internal parasites. Besides almost every fish has some internal parasites. They usually don't cause a problem unless the fish is already sick from something else or extremely weakened for some reason (like a long period of time of high stress). Praziquantel is safe and you could use it, but an internal bacterial infection can cause white feces. Tainted foods can start it. Do you store all of your foods including flake and freeze-dried in the freezer? Do you only buy foods in quantities that will be used up within two months?
