struggling SPS dip?

I have several struggling SPS colonies. Due to unknown reasons (kh swing, heavy metals?) they are receding at tips and bases. They have also "œbrowned" a bit"¦
I (think) I have remedied the problem, but I'm not sure, because I really don't know what it is!
So- in trying to make sure I don't lose the whole colony(s) I am thinking of cutting the colonies off the bases, then dipping either the base or the colony to try to save it. I figure I will leave ½ of the coral alone, and hope it recovers on its own, while dipping the other ½ , in the hopes that if I lose ½ , at least I'll have the other ½.

So the question is, what is the best dip to help a damage SPS survive? I have Revive"¦
I was also thinking Lugols, but don't know much about it.
What do you think?

Thanks in advance!!!!

what exactly is lugols good for?

putting the last nail in the coffin

blindly dipping without specific reason for what you are dipping for, with an appropriate dip is never a good idea

many times all that is needed to straighten things out is pulling 10-20% water changes every day for a week in a row, and running carbon in a upflow reactor if you arent already. it doesnt necessarily matter if "everything else looks fine". Thsi along with making sure there are nutrients in the water. Feed the heck out of your fish, more so than usual even if you do already, and dosing some food or aminos when you do this can be necessary as the water will be nutrient poor

As far as fragging, cutting some 1-3" (or whatever) sized frags off to give currently healthy parts a fresh start is a good idea, and if a colony simply looks like it is going ot go, then whacking the entire thing up into many pieces is usually the best course of action.

cutting the colonies in half and leaving half alone and dipping the other half is not a good plan IMO. Now, cutting all the frags you can off of a dying colony and remounting them(cuting well into the healthy tissue and sealing all open wounds with a thin layer of glue) and leaving the base where it is does sound good. When this happens, I also like to seal any open wounds on the base that you leave with a thin layer of superglue gel if possible
