stuborn sea apple

My freind needs to remove a sea apple from the glass on the top of his tank so he can do some maintainence, he is reluctant to stress it too much incase it ejects its guts and wipes out the tank!

Any suggestions on how to encourage it off?

I've never done it but have heard that you can place a bag of ice against the glass and that will make it come off without stressing it out.
