These things are spendy. We had two well and truly stuck together, as a housekeeping move had stacked them, and a little moisture and time had created suction.

The solution?

Laid the pair on the floor, pressed down on inner one, inserted broom handle between the two all the way to the bottom. Released vacuum, and we saved ourselves something like 35.00.

Just keep that knowledge in your toolkit, in case.

Wouldn't pouring water in between them work too?

Sit on the cans at the opening, enough to keep them in place but not deform. Wiggle the top can up and down while applying weight. I use this with stuck buckets and it works every time. Good luck

various good answers, some of which we tried. Apparently biologics (prior use with tank water) had something to do with the extreme suction we were fighting. When we did get it loose---we had to spray the area down: mold of some sort.
