stuck bulb

Today while doing a water change, we broke a MH 250w bulb. The glass is cracked pretty bad but not broken and no part of the glass fell into the tank. I tried holding the bulb as close to the socket as I can and the bulb won't move, it's stuck. Anyone have a good way to loosen the bulb. Any ideas are appreciated!

An old trick my dad taught me was to turn off the electricity, and cut a potato in half, stick half of it over the cut end and turn. It does work sometimes.

Thanks for the potato trick idea. This bulb wasn't broken off but if I ever have a base that breaks off, I'll try to remember that tip! I went ahead and wrapped the bulb with duct tape and kept on trying to turn it... it did finally loosen and I was able to get it out. I think just looking at that cracked bulb had me scared to try putting a lot of pressure on it. I got lucky that it came out!
