Is there anyone in or around Nashville that will lend me a Stud Finder. I want to put up a shelf to hold a 5 gallon ATO container. Needless to say, that sort of weight will need go into the studs. I live on 37th ave N, if anyone is near there and has a stud finder that can help, that would be great.

If its some where you will be able to cover it up, you can tap on the wall where you are going to put the shelf. When you hear a more solid sound take a small finish nail and tap it in lightly. If it get harder to drive in you found a stud if not move one way or the other 1 in till you find it. From there they should be on 16 in centers but check with the finish nail. If you do this where the shelf will cover the small hole(s) no one will know but you.

Yea, What nightimenick said... I keep finding those little finish nail holes to find the stud everywhere running with my trims in the house I had to putty over :(. BUY At least they found the studs :)

I do have a stud finder but if you have a tape measure I can help you locate your wall studs. Try measuring from left to right from where your wall t's into another wall. The 2x4's should be to the left of every 16" mark. (16", 32", 48", 64"....)
If you need any more help just let me know

Also, plugs are either to the left or the right of a 2x4 stud. If you have a air return or vent in the wall (14 1/2"), 2x4's are on either side.
happy hunting
