Stupid Freakin Mistake

I am cycling some dry rock and wanted an extra power head and pulled one from my tank that had ick 6 weeks ago. The tank has been fallow the whole 6 weeks. I could kick myself. I did not rinse it or anything, just let the water run off enough so it would not drip on the carpet and dropped it right in.
Not sure if ick can be transfered by equipment or not, probably can. I realized it an hour later and pulled it out, rinsed in FW then soaked in vinegar for 30 minutes, rinsed again, and then put it back in. If I did contaminate, then I guess another 6 weeks is in order. Planned on that anyway to cycle. Just ****ed me of to have to do that with brand new water and rock!!!

Sometimes it happens. You should be fairly safe with six weeks, but if you are cycling for another six, you should be good to go then.

actually, i don't think you are restarting the whole "fallow" time. There is no fish in both the DT and the tank curing live rocks. the ich that could potentially hitchhike onto the power head are entering another "fallow" environment and would still be on its original schedule to run its life cycle. there's no fish that would let the ich start another cycle.

i don't think you need to wait another 6 weeks. another 3-4 weeks should be fine. well, unless you do need another 6 weeks fo cure the rocks, then that'll actually work out for you.

Should work out fine, thank you! I just did not want to add the ick to my new rock system. The amonia could potentially kill them anyway, maybe! Maybe not.
