Boy did I screw up. I noticed my alk was creeping up a little so I turned off the pump that doses my alk for a little while to let it come down a little until i had time to adjust my dosing on my Apex. I wasn't paying attention when I turned it back on and I set it to "on" instead of "auto". It dosed constantly for 23hrs. My alk went from 10.4 to 14.84. I'm making water now for a water change and I turned off the dosing pump. However I don't want to lower it too quickly as I think one abrupt swing is enough.

I would just let it come down on its own, you may have to change a large portion of water to make a 4dkh difference.

If it's anything like my tank your system is consuming over 1 dKH of Alk per day. Just let it ride.

yeah 14dkh is nothing...just let it ride it out...i know a couple guys who run their sps tanks at 14-15 and they have amazing tanks.

It's not really the 14 that bugs me, it's the 4 point swing in less than 24 hours.

Yes, but you don't want another 4 point swing bringing it back down either, better to take it back down slowly.

Would just let it come down by itself. Just keep monitoring tank...

Yup your stuck between a cactus and a porcupine and as everyone knows Alk swings can be death to SPS but like the others have stated one swing is enough. Unless your seeing Alk burn I would also let it ride.

can your fish breathe? i have herd at a point near those levels your fish can go blind as well.
