Stupid Skimmer

I'm trying to figure out my stupid protien skimmer but it's all over the map...

One day it's pulling awsome skimmate... next day it's not even bubbling into the cup... the next day it's going bazerk and over flowing every 10 minutes...

I just unplugged it...

It's within the "recommended" water level in my sump.... I have an ATO... so my sump level is very consistent...

Any suggestions from past experience??

It's a bubble magus curve A5

How long has it been running for? Until they break in properly a skimmer can act really funny doing exactly what you describe.

Also, when you feed the tank the oils in the food will make the skimmer go inactive for a couple hours. Its best not to adjust the skimmer during this time.

It's been running about a month...

Tonight it's going nutts and overflowing within 10 minutes...I've got it wide open and it's still over flows...

What do I do?

Let it run?

Shud I just pop the drain plug out and let'r run over night...otherwise I wake up in the morning with skimmer splatter all over everything under my stand...

If you have it fully open I would try to raise it up a bit. What are the recommended levels for your skimmer and how deep is it sitting?

So I set it up about and inch and a quarter and it immediately calmed down... it's running at level 3 now instead of "max"... perhaps I'll build a little egg crate structure as a permanent stand and hopefully that'll solve it.

Appreciate the advice

Hey no problem. Skimmer frustrations can be a pain. Glad you got it figured out. I would make small adjustments over the next week or so to get it tuned in.
