What is the best substrate to use in a refugium?

Your going to want sand, IMO a DSB some do deeper than others

I was just going to use mineral mud but decide to use live sand because I will not have to replace it after a certain amount of time.

Sounds good to me I got mine all set up all I need is substrate a little rock and some cheato.

I used just a plain 2'' sandbed of quickcrete sand.
