substrates

hi there ...I am completly new to the salt water hobby even though i have kept freshwater fish for about 30 years I feel I need some advice to help me make the right choices and my first question is about substrates.I will be setting up a fish and live rock tank of 100 gallons and would like to know which would be the best substrate for this. Any thoughts tips or advice would be welcome.thanx

from what I have read argonite is the best choice. probably about 1 inch on the bottom of the tank. this can be seeded with live sand from a established marine tank to create live sand if you wish. or the live rock will seed it also but it will take longer.

There are some silica sands that will work as well, and are much less expensive. You might not like the looks, though.

Just watch out for very fine particle substrates they will scratch the glass if rubbed against (like cleaning the glass and some gets on the cleaning instrument ie.brushes, magnetic cleaners)
