Success of wrasse in bare bottom tank

Like the title says, I have a 75 gallon bare bottom reef tank. I really want a wrasse but dont want to put sand in my tank. Would it be cruel to add a Tricolor Fairy Wrasse to my tank without sand? I may end up changing my mind and adding sand anyways in the future.

fairy wrasses should be fine, leopard wrasses, halichoeres, as well as a few others I believe may be trouble however.

Fairy and flasher wrasses don't sleep in the sand, so it would do well.

They'll be fine, I have a few wrasses and no sand. They sleep on the corners of my tank or in between the rocks in the slime cacoon.

Depending on how large your tank is you can take a tupperware and add sand to it. Hide it somewhere behind your rocks out of view if you would like and then the wrasses will have somewhere to sleep. I saw someone on RC that does this and it seemed to work very well just dont remember who.

Only trouble is that they kick the sand out when they dig like cats in a litterbox, LOL. I had one kick out a tube anemone to get to the sand I had it in.

A sand bed is attractive, harbors lots of beneficial critters/food sources and has great nutrient processing capabilities. Add some sand with or without a wrasse. :fun4:
