Suggestions for a 10g

Hey all,

One of my fish is acting up and I'm going to move either it (six line wrasse) or my pair of clowns out of my 36g and into a 10g. In addition to a jail cell for my sixline, I want this tank to also be used for some of my overgrown coral and such.

I'm just curious if you guys can suggest some of the bare essential equipment and a light source that could work to keep some basic coral in my 10g. Mostly soft corals.

I plan to keep up with weekly water changes so I don't think I need a skimmer. Thinking just a HOB power filter with some basic media in it. Will a single HOB Power Filter (probably the 35 or 50) be enough circulation for the tank? Or should I get a small MJ too?

Guys know of a good (cheap) PC light I should keep an eye out for? Not having much luck finding anything but those cheap fluorescent plastic hoods which probably won't be enough for the coral I plan to move over with the fish.

Do they sell drilled 10g tanks (unlikely) so I can make a 10g sump too?

Other then that the only other thing I can think to get is a heater and some sand. Maybe a handful of hermits for cleanup and an astrea snail or 2.

Any other suggestions are helpful.

maybe put the clowns in the 10g?
i think a wrasse needs more room to swim...thats just my thought looking at how they swim...the clowns dont seem to swim too far away from their anemone home

but like i said...my opinion based on my observation of swimming

Yea, the six line doesn't swim around that much either though. They kind of cruise around the rocks and such just looking for copepods and stars to eat. Figure if I put a couple pieces of rock in there and a couple pieces of pvc pipe he'll be happy. Probably happier with no other people in the tank.

Plus who knows when he'll act back up against the chromis and such. In the long run I'll probably trade/sell him anyway if I did move him to the 10g.

But this is why I'm asking :) Any other input?

I'd put the misbehaving fish in the 10g. He won't like it, and when you put him back in the 30g there is a chance the dominance will change for the better.

I'm not sure about your setup, but I'd connect the two tanks so you don't get wild salinity swings in the 10g. If you use a sump just get a small pump and a siphon overflow.

There is no set up. All I have now is a stand with room for 2 10g fish tanks on it. Figured I'd set up a 10g sump for the 10g so I could figure out how all that stuff works so if/when I get a larger tank in the future (distant future) I know how to do all the plumbing.

Last time I looked at the siphon overflow things they cost like $50. I didn't want spend that much total on this 10g :/

craigslist is your friend. I keep my eye out for used equipment.

Also, DIY w/ a U, hose, and a plastic yogurt cup.
