Suggestions for a LG Reef SHOW fish

Just converted my 240g (8'x2'x2') from a FOWLR to a soon to be T5 driven reef.

I plan on 1-2 Doz various Damsels, 1 Doz Blue Reef Chromis, and my Dragon Moray eel.

I want to add 1 SHOW fish for this reef. Currently I'm thinking of trying a Clown tang even though I know they are "Expert only".

Is there any other Reef Safe large fish you would suggest. This will be the ONLY 1 large fish in the tank.

Suggestions?

If your intersted in tangs. Go for a Gem tang

LOL

Just get a reef safe fish that you will enjoy. I like the Clown or a Soho tang or even a Naso.

Good luck deciding. It's not easy to choice.. but with your tank size you have a lot of options......

I just saw one at my LPS about 10" that a great look fish....wish I had a bigger tank..

Just sold my 9" Blond male when I decided to go reef. Wanted something a little more exotic to go in with my Dragon.

I don't think that clown tangs are any harder to keep than other tangs if you find a healthy and eating specimen. Just be prepared for a VERY mean fish once they grow older. I'm still debating whether I'm going to add one to my 375, because they are awesome looking but very aggressive once they reach a larger size.

I'm ok with Aggressive as he will be the only lg fish in the tank and he will live with a Dragon.

Not for nothing, but the damsels and chromis will be a tasty meal for the dragon, no?

How about a nice crosshatch?

Pair of crosshstch or bluethroat triggers would be sooooooooooooo cool and that tank. I know its not what you were looking for though.

Dragon always try's to eat new tankmates but he has been living with 17 damsels in a 75g for several months now while I have been prepping the 240 with no casualties.

The Crosshatch is an option but I'd worry about him eating the damsels/chromis.

I'd worry more about the dragon eating the damsels and chromis than a Crosshatch. In my experience they're reasonably peaceful if given a large enough tank and well fed. They may nip some fins, but generally not too aggressive as long as the other fish aren't tiny.

Jeremy, I agree some of them are beautiful and active fish. How do you feel about them being reef-safe though. I was always under the impression that they are not, but don't know if they're a threat to just shrimp, or corals also. Any idea?

I would call them more reef safe than a dragon eel!:twitch:

They do not bother corals at all, unless they arent well fed, they may turn over rubble or similar looking for prey, but they dont eat, etc.

Honestly, I think the whole "reef safe" moniker needs to visit the trash can. It has no definition that can be standardized.
