suggestions for self sustaining reef

I am planning on building a 40g tank and would like to include fish that can handle little maintenance. Any suggestions for fish that can feed themselves like mandorins with a refugium and an algae blenny?

Mollies are prolific live-bearers and eat algae, effectively turning algae into feeder fish. A tank with plenty of algae and a good breeding group of mollies could support a carnivorous fish or two. With minimal adjustments, this could be self-sustaining. You'd need enough fish biomass to 'feed' the algae at the bottom of the food chain.
