Hi all
I live in a typically temperate climate and have never had any issues with this.
However, two days ago I noticed that every single soft coral and most of my LPS and gorgs were receded and/or droopy. However all my sps were totally fine. I was very confused since my sps are more typically "difficult" corals like acros.
I assumed that is was because my salinity had creeped up slightly (1.027) and dropped it. However that didn't do the trick. I took a day and a half for my numbskull brain to put together that we're in a historic heat wave and my room gets particularly hot. I checked the temp and it was just over 90! Needless to say I took corrective measures immediately like turning off lights, directing all fans towards the tank and unplugging heaters.
However, I'm pretty sure my blasto colony is already completely bleached
The others are still receded but will hopefully come back. I've gotten the temp down to around 81. I normally have it between 79 and 80.
I read online that these corals tend to come from deeper parts of the reef and thus can't handle those temps whereas my sps can.
Anyway, take it from me: if there's a heatwave coming, prepare!
