Summer Vacation

Well we started our family road trip on the other day to Flagstaff,AZ to see the Grand Canyon. What a sight!! I was thinking "Lets go see a big ditch in the ground" boy it was beautiful. Today we are driving off to San Diego. We will be going to the San Diego Zoo and the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla this weekend. I am trying to convince my wife and girls that we must go to Calacademy.org when we make our way up to San Francisco. But before we leave AZ, we are going to make a pit stop at Heart Attack Grill. I have been talking about this burger place with the guys at works for months. If you have never heard of it check out there website or go to youtube to see some clips. I had found a couple of other aquariums along the way in other cities, but we will be busy with theme parks and I didn't want to give up my days hanging out at the beach. I wish my family was morning people like me, I wouldn't be writing here and waiting:rolleye1:

Put Monterey Bay Aquarium on your list as well. From there, head up the coast to Santa Cruz and hit Natural Bridges SB for some tide pooling and a visit to the greatest university on the planet. The drive over 17 to the bay area is really nice from there if you don't want to do the VERY long Santa Cruz to SF coast drive (though there should be some elephant seals lolling about at Ano Nuevo).

What route are you taking from SD to SF?
I've heard Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach is nice too, but I've never been.

bmb, I agree with you on In-N-Out burgers. Although those burgers were very good. They were the ideal grease burger joint. I would rate them very high on my burger list :D Not to mention the nice looking nurses working there ;)
We went to Birch aquarium on Saturday, wich was very nice. Ocean Journey has a much better coral display tank than them, but thier outdoor pools were cool. I was talking to one of the hosts there and asked about people filling up with fresh seawater over there. She showed me the area and also spoke about her dad getting wter from Birch. Man, That make a person feel real envious of a Souther Cali resident.
Yesterday, we went to the San Diego Zoo. By ends day I thought my feet were going to fall off. It was really cool seeing a the panda's and koala's (sp?). If you ever plan on going there, wear your most comfotable shoes ever. Afterwards we went and hung out at Mission beach for the last time before we move on.
goslugsgo, My plan was to stay right on the coast all the way up. I seen on mapquest that it takes longer, but if we want to get to San Fran in a hurry we might skip that route. Most likely I won't even tell them there is a quicker route. Talk to you all in a bit. Thanks

I just got back from the Cal Academy tour a few days ago. Suggestions:

1. Go on a weekday.
2. Arrive before the opening.
3. Prepare yourself for incredibly long lines anyway.
4. Take one of the behind-the-scenes tours. The reef tank itself is still very young, so there's not that much coral to see yet.

I haven't seen the Cal Academy tanks yet, but I agree that the Long Beach and Monterrey aquariums are a must!

Have fun.......

I second manhattan beach... I'm there right now! It's really nice.

Silly job training put me a few blocks from the beach for a month... bummer!

I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.

Well, maybe strong dislike is more appropriate. Go for a swim at 8th St. for me and enjoy my beloved hometown. Grrr.

All this Cal talk is going to make me buy a plane ticket.
