sump add-on

After modifying the sump I got with a whole system that I bought, I am left a return section that is too small. I have some room under the tank to add an additional sump to connect to the return section and make it large enough.

My problem is that I don't want to have to drill my current sump since it is full of water and can't easily be shut down. About the only solution I can think of is too add a small pump to push water into the new section and another to push it out to the return section.

Does anyone have a better idea?

Thanks,
Mark

I would not recommend pumping from one sump to the other. This adds another fault point into your system. As much as a pain as it will be to drain your sump to drill it, you'll be happier with the end result and have greater piece of mind regarding the soundness of your system.

Thanks for the input. I probably should do it the right way, I'm just tired of so many tank projects and hoped for a trick solution. Too bad I have to learn so many things the hard way, even with all of my reading and planning.
