Sump design question

I haven't seen a sump with external drain intake like the attached. Can someone explain the advantages or possible disadvantages to this kind of setup? Local guy is selling for a great price as new 5 ft. Long.

It looks to me like it was a standard tank that was converted to a sump and it was easier to place the drain outside than modify the bracing. I would have no problem running it as is.

I'm thinking you might be right. Not sure why the would bother doing that though.

Actually, I think it would be really easy to add a filter sock baffle to this sump. Here is a crude paint edit of what I would do.

How much would it cost to build/buy a sump like this? I would say anything less than that would be a good deal.
