i've been a long time lurker here, and have learned much. but, i do need some help now. i'm trying to lay out a design on a custom sump. this is for a 55gallon tank., as many know, these stands are very limited in space. so, i layed something out, and i think this could work. i'd like some response back, tell me what i'm doing wrong. but, i think it'll work.

much appreciated.

Looks like it will work fine. You may have some noise issues depening on how far the water has to fall from that first overflow.

What are you planning on doing with that first section anyhow? Refugium? Bioballs? It seems a little larger then it needs to be. I personally would make the first section smaller so you have more room for LR in the middle. That is where all of the bacteria are going to grow so that is really the most important space.

i was planning on doing a refugium, 2" sandbed. i kinda like what melevsreef did on his site on the 55 gallon tank he had. on his revised version of his sump, he put a new drainpipe so streamline his flow a bit better. he also set his refugium up a little higher on a platform. i think he has rocks under it. does anyone know if this is more beneficial? man, i sound like such a newbie, don't I.

thanks on the diagram.

I had this sump/refugium/wet/dry filter custom made for my 55gallon. I recently bought a new tank and had a new sump/refugium/wet/dry filter built for my new tank. I am Selling the old one here You can see in the add, the sample pics are of my new filter. I had it built larger for my bigger tank.

If your going to DIY one you should consider this type of all in one filter design.
