Sump Design

Ok going to be currently upgrading to a 115g and using my current 75g as a refugium/sump. Well i don't want to empty out the sand of the 75g and use it as a show refugium. Well that leaves me to find somewhere to put my skimmer/return pump. I was thinking about making a stand on top of the sand with a rubbermaid container that houses my skimmer with holes drilled in it at the 10 inch water level. Then at the other end of the 75g a small rubbermaid container that houses my return pump. This way no sand gets into the containers and i don't have to install baffles. Anyone ever heard of this being done before? Do we foresee any problems?

Yeah I see future problems with keepingthe water levels constant for your skimmer. It will never skim properly if the water it sits in rises up and down all the time, you would constantly have to adjust the level of bubbles. Trust me I speak from lots of experience on this one, if youre going to make the 75 a sump do it right the first time. Empty it out and make the chambers you need with baffles and then you won't have to tear it down in the future cause it's not right or how you really want it. I tried to go the same route as you are with the rubbermaid tubs and trust me it is more trouble than it's worth. Take your time and make the sump you really need/want and you will he much happier.
