sump design

Has anyone built a sump like this? I have a forty gal tank and a thirty gal sump, the reason for the design is because I'm building my own stand and I'd like as much presentation as possible

I'm going to run a lighter bioload, I'm starting with all base rock, the reefsaver stuff from brs. So my skimmer is a coralife super skim 65 And return pump is a sicce silent pump that is submersable, with the head taken off the gph the flow will be around 400 and that's very close to the pump in the skimmer, I'm going to run a titanium heater 300 watts and the secondary heater will be small and cheep for acclimation and backup, quarantine ext. Lighting will be the last thing I buy for the sump

Here's a picture of the first stage of the stand, disregard the stuff in the tank, I was just oh... dreaming for this finished project :p

I think you should do 3 sections and not do one long section. I would have more space for skimmer chamber and have a much better skimmer than the one you have planned. Bottom line, that may work now but in this hobby it helps to think ahead, and that means having a sump that you can change up a little. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I really want to use this style because the way it would look. But looks arnt everything, I'll look into a better skimmer

Make sure you know how long your heaters will be. I was surprised at how large they were and had to rethink my sump layout to accommodate them. My 150W Eheim Jagers are 13" long.

I like the design but it will be made up when all the equpiment comes in, good point on the heaters I'm going with a via aqua titanium, what would be a good skimmer for the money for my situation? Any suggestions would help

My only problem with the layout is that you don't have easy access to the stuff behind the fuge. I like to be able to see everything.... If I see that my pump is clogged with chaeto, I can clear it out before it becomes a big problem. Little things like that are invaluable.
