Sump design

My stand leaves me 920x720 mm sump and other equipments area, minus 40x40mm bars at corners. I tried to design 3 regions, one is at back, for RO water, and other two at front for PS and return pump. Size is 60x68cm.

Two of three standpipes will land to PS area, and emergency will end in return section. distance between baffles are about 1", PS side baffle glass is 2" from top edge, return side glass is 1" from ground, slightly more then 1" from top edge of front glass.

Remaining 30 cm at side of sump will be used for calcium reactori co2 tube, etc..

For some reason, sketchup layout displays distances in meters, sorry for this, could not find a way to change it to centimeters.

I would make the baffles a little wider. If you drop something in their, [we always do] you will shave the skin off your knuckles trying to reach it. :(
Just big enough for your hand you know?
Daniel. :)

Daniel good point, I will consider it thank you, what I am especially wondering is seperator distances from top and bottom of sump. I am not sure that I fully understand what will happen when the phead starts and how critical they are.

So you're thinking how high off the bottom the one baffle should be to move the desired water volume. Your sump looks fairly wide. I would think 1 inch +- would be sufficient. What does PS stand for?

Also, powerhead is Jebao DC-10000, though it is a digitally adjustable one, hope not turns to an overkill.

PS is for protein skimmer, which is a Reef octopus P.O.V. DC-2, footprint is 10"x12.4"

Oh! Duh. That one got by me....:lolspin:

I would also give a little more empty space for the display tank to syphon down to the sump. Check valves are not always 100%. By powerhead, do you mean return pump? Good choice on an adjustable DC pump. I have a Speedwave.

Sorry, right, return pump. my english. Whats limiting me on sump dimensions is the height of skimmer which is about 60cm, with a higher sump, it will become impossible to put skimmer into sump or take out.

The thing is, never experienced with high level skimmers or pumps before, I really wonder now, if I can get them working, without flooding once or twice...:worried:

Don't worry, you will have a flood at least three times. Some people will put something waterproof under the sump like a shower curtain.
Daniel.

No actually I will seal the bottom with silicone sealant. But suddenly it started to look like a good idea to keep a dry/wet return pump ready somewhere, instead of bulky rainbow vacuum..:D
