Sump Design

I'm looking to put together a sump for my 1st marine aquarium. Planning on a 75g (48x18x20) display tank. Am thinking of a 30g(36x12x16) sump to house small bio ball section, culerpa, sponge, carbon (ocassionally), skimmer, and then back to tank.
Planning on putting sump together myself with glass tank and inserts from local glass shop.
Smart / or not so smart, any ideas?

Also, brand new to this site. Any recommendations, much appreciated. Have been doing internet/book research for what seems like forever. Ready to take the plunge...

I've attached a drawing...

The real question is, do most people just use wet/dry with a skimmer, or do you include an eco filter (macro algae) along with a skimmer? Not to mention calcium reactors, etc...

There seems to be so many filter options it's dizzying...
