sump design

ok sorry i dont have any pictures or diagrams to show but i need some advice before i start on this project.

The display tank is a 25 gallon.

I have a lifereef overflow rated at 600 gph

I will be using a 10 gallon glass aquarium as the sump. The sump will have a intake section with a bubble trap folowing it. In the middle there will be a refugium. Another baffle will seperate the refugium from the return.

The tank is roughly 4.5 foot from the sump, i was planning on using a mag 7 as the return. The mag will push 420 gph at this height.

All equipment including my remora skimmer will be in the sump.

Will this work? is the sump going to be big enough, will the flow be ok? will microbubbles be a problem? are there any other things i have forgotten???

thanks!

Well I dont know what kind of stand you will be using, but I would try to use a 20g as the sump. That way you not only double your water capacity (which will make it more stable) but you also insure you will have enough room for everything including a decent size fuge.

i dont know if i can fit a 20 gallon, i believe the supports limit the depth of the tank, buti ll re measure and check it out. I know where i can get used 20's for ten dollars a piece.

You can also build your sump out of plexi-glass to the largest specifications your stand will allow. (if you know how to work acrylic, it really isnt hard to do)

i would prefer to use acrylic, but im in college right now and dont have access to my table saw. Do you think that a glass shop would be able to cut the pieces i need for a small fee?

after looking at acrylic, it will be much much cheaper just to use a glass 10 gal. Will a mag 7 put too much flow through this tank?
