sump/fuge?

I currently have a 55g reef set up wit a 10g as a fuge/sump my question is I am upgrading to a 75g set uand was wondering how much of a difference is the water diaplacement if the electric should go off. Right now I have about a 3in clearance to the rim of the sump if the pump is not running. I am thinking of trying a 20g high set up instead so there would be more room to fill the sump instead of my living room floor. Any tips?

I have a 20 long as a sump under my 75g. I have about 1/4 of it empty to handle the water in case of an outage. It's a good idea to mark the high water mark on the sump. That way, no mistakes.

How far down does the water drop in the case of a power outage? A standard 75 is 48x18x20 and therefore about 3.7gal per inch. If you lose about three inches of water when the pumps are off, you will need more than 10gals to hold the run-off. Why not use your 55gal as a sump?

I placed a 20L on my 10gal nano.
