sump help quick!!!

Not sure what the pf 800 is. Do you know how many gph it is?
I don't know if a second u-tube would help. If you have one give it a try.

I am also wondering why you want to regulate the flow over the center divider in the overflow box. Is it because of noise?

Are you getting a "flushing" type issue where the water fills up then all of a sudden drops and starts filling again? If you are, then you have an issue with not getting the right amount of air in the drain with the water. If you're not...well then I don't get it. Sorry. :(

mfinn, sorry the pf-800 is my eshopps overflow. The return pump is a rio 2100 and it out does my drain if not dialed back.

Why do you have that piece of sponge in the 1st chamber, it doesn't need to be there. You are indeed not pulling enough air through your drain. It looks like your overflow in on the left side and draining to the right side. Is there a chance that your drain runs slightly uphill? You need atleast, by plumbing standards, 1/4 inch fall per foot. My not be the problem but worth a look.

The sponge is gone, I forgot and left it there. I believe I am plenty of downward slope for my drain. There is one 90 degree elbow it the line, all others were either multiple 45 or single 45 deg. How do I pull more air into the drain, shouldn't it do that on its own as kinda a vacuum?
Here are some pics of my skimmer.....

this one you can see that there is no foam or anything coming into the collection cup

sorry about the flash but, there is now foam getting into the cup, but notice the sponge or media in the drain area. If I plug the hole up some then I start to get it to collect. Last night there was just foam going into it no problem.
And last, my new saddle back clown somehow got into my overflow and sucked through the tube, sad day :sad2:

Bummer about your clown.

That skimmer may just need to be broken in.

Have you tried added a second u-tube?
Plus try opening the valve just a tiny bit to let more water go through the overflow.
If that doesn't work, try cutting back the flow a tiny bit.
There has to be a sweet spot where the overflow is working right.
Shouldn't flush continueally.

The flush is gone now. There was a small, about 4 inches, tube that came with the overflow that fit perfectly in the drain side. This make the flow over the divider almost match now and not flush. My ball valve on the drain tube is all the way open too. Once again it still doesn't keep up with my return pump though. I'll get the second overflow tube sometime this week, didn't make it tonight.

Eshopps overflow, is the pf-800 that says a max flow of 800 gph and the sump is a 20l. Skimmer is a eshopps psk-100 and the return pump is a rio 2100. Here is the detail of the overflow.http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=2850
Is the cylinder foam pad just the big pad with the center cut out or should there also be another one somewhere else? Also, how far down into my dt should the pre-filter box be?

If the prefilter box is low enough to have let the clown get into it, then I'd say it's too low.
I think the foam pad is just a filter to keep anything big from going down the drain.

It's been soo long since I've had to deal with overflow boxes.
I got tired of them years ago and just had all my tanks since then drilled.
Hopefully someone else will jump in and help that is more up on the overflow boxes.

I already talked the wifey into a bigger tank come June. Looking more like a 120 or 150. Definately going to be drilled. Thanks for all your help. The prefilter box now is high enough that the water flows through the teeth, it's just my clown was that small.

I just was looking at the overflow and the side that is in the tank might be to high, gonna lower it down and see what happens. Only about a quater inch of teeth is below water, thinking it should be more.

DING DING DING we have a winner! The prefilter box in the dt was wayto high. I lowered it down to where the teeth were just sticking out of the water and almost overflowed my sump! I can actually hear the water in the pipes now. Turned the return pump all the way back on and it was a smashing success. I kept thinking about the thread where the guy asked "why is my drain so loud?" and I had none of that, now I do. Only a little gurgleing now and then, but I'll tackle that tomorrow. It comes into the sump at a 30 to 45 degree angle then has a 45 elbow after that, so maybe it needs something different..
