Sump or fuge

I know what a combined sump fuge looks like. What is the purpose of the fuge part? Is there a good reason to include a fuge? The other question is would a black sump be better than a clear sump?

For the first part of your question:
GO with the FUGE! (did I mention go w/ the fuge?)
Place macro algae in the fuge, give it some light, and it will try and outcomete the micro algea such as hair algae, etc.
You can't go wrong w/ adding a fuge.
As for the black/clear... i'd go w/ clear that way you can always view all the little critters running around in your fuge!

I had a wet/dry ----> then just a sump -----> now working on a fuge

the combo works best...basically Fuges are benficial...its a proven that works

I have a sump with a small acrylic tank i/o as a fuge. seems to be working well

I've got both and like it that way. If I want to take the fuge down it's no problem.
