sump or no sump

Anyone have success with using external power filters and cannister filters as apposed to running a sump?

You really don't need either, imo. If you have enough live rock it will support the bio load. I run a sumpless system and do fine. I do however have a hang-on skimmer and plenty of flow. I do use a small aquaclear for carbon.

Yes, I would be skimming and have plenty of flow. Also this is for a fowlr tank of 120 gal.
