Sump plans - what do you think?

What do you think?

yeah I know - I kept trying to get a clearer picture but it just wasn't working. I can't upload at the original size because it is 54 kb yet the next smallest I seem to be able to save it at is about 2 kb.

Questions I have - Is the reeflow snapper pump a good pump? My tank has one 1 inch overflow - is this too many gallons per hour? While the picture doesn't show it - I am thinking about running a t connection off of it. Could I connect this to a calc reactor?

For skimmers - I was planning on using the Octopus Extreme 200.

Looks like it would work to me. I'm guessing those are 'true union ball valves' on the in/out of the snapper? Does the 125 only have 1 drain line?

Depending what kind of overflow you do on the fuge I don't think the bubble trap is necessary. Maybe just a simple wall baffle with some eggcrate for a guard. Otherwise you could route some teeth into a piece of acrylic for a baffle. If the water is going to be falling from the fuge a significant distance I would put a bubble tower in the return section of the fuge instead.

Thanks for the response. They are true union valves. Inlet is a 2 inch true union and outlet is inch and a half. The outlet, on the way to the tank - pass through a 1 1/2 to 1 inch reducer and then through another union. Does this look like it would work? My tank only has 1 - 1 inch center overflow. In the tank using loc-line I split this into two outlets.

Not sure what you mean by this statement "If the water is going to be falling from the fuge a significant distance I would put a bubble tower in the return section of the fuge instead." Do you mean if the water is going to be falling INTO the fuge a long distance from the tank? Or else, falling into the sump a long distance I should put the return into the skimmer section prior to the bubble trap? In terms of distance falling, everything is going to be under my tank in the stand (not customer made - acrylic. I can get the measurements if you need them.)

Yes the 2" in and 1.5" out is OK. I spoke with Reeflo a while back about a pump I'm looking into and he said as long as the in/out are either equal or the suction side is greater than the output you are fine. You just don't want the suction side to be smaller than the output.

I was asking about the fuge because from the drawing it looks like two separate tanks. If the fuge is actually IN the sump you can do a simple one wall baffle with some teeth routed into it. It looked like the fuge was a separate tank that would drain back into the sump a longer distance. I think this would give you a better idea of what I'm talking about, even though this is an acrylic sump.

The fuge is a separate tank. This is similiar to what I was planning:

I've also considered trying to get one made like this one:

The problem I have is that my stand has a useable space of 60 inches by 12 inches due to the support system. (Note - internally it is 60 x 12 - the tank itself is 60 & 18). The tank itself is Further - the openings are fairly narrow so I am not sure - even if I had a custom made sump like the one above - that I would be able to get it into my stand.

Gotcha. Both are good designs. Melev is the master. :) In any event with the dual tank sump, the fuge isn't much higher than the sump so I would presume there wouldn't be much splashing/bubbles when the fuge drain water hits the return section of the sump. At 12" wide, are you going to be able to fit a skimmer in there?

lol - thanks for pointing that out. Not sure if my chosen skimmer will fit (Octo Extreme 200 at 11.5 X 13.5). Will have to check that that out.

Thanks for all of your help!

 Minor details. :D I just bought the MSX250 from Marine Solutions. It's the same skimmer as the Octopus line for less $$$. And, they are supposed to be more efficient because of the MS pinwheel design. They also have the 200 model which is the same skimmer you were going to get. I did find out, however, the footprint they have on the website is a little smaller than the actual footprint I measured when I got it home. Good luck!
